The role
The Head of DevOps delivery provides best-in-class solutions for the business as an expert in DevOps application delivery, whilst also knowing how to translate the needs of the business into requirements that can be delivered and run at pace with exceptional quality.
We currently operate a hybrid working model. This entails 3 days per week collaborating with colleagues in the office, and 2 days working from home.
Key responsibilities
- Develop an excellent working knowledge of the business goals, priorities, and processes.
- Lead and develop our DevOps capability suitable for a modern, digitally driven insurance firm.
- Lead, mentor, and develop DevOps Squads to ensure successful and effective Product delivery is embedded across the organisation.
- Own/participate in talent acquisition to strengthen our DevOps capability.
- Build relationships with teams across multiple disciplines to deliver product vision, strategy, and roadmaps. These include Product Management, software engineering, analysis, quality assurance, DevOps, Infrastructure-as-Code, and agile delivery.
- Working alongside Product Managers in motivating product teams (in a matrix organisation) to deliver on product vision and strategy.
- Drive a culture and process change from “project-based work” towards “product-based work”; take a leading role in defining our portfolio of products, and in embedding and empowering the role of DevOps Squads
- Put in place appropriate transparency, checks and balances, governance, and controls to ensure we are delivering what the business needs, with quality and consistency.

Qualifications, skills and experience
- Experience moving organisations from a project-based structure and approach to one that is product and DevOps centric
- Full project life-cycle experience e.g., Technical software development in multiple programming languages, using multiple databases - with demonstrable knowledge of different project life cycles including waterfall, agile and hybrid
- Experience working with groups across various departments (business, finance, hr, legal, etc.)
- Proven Experience working in a dynamic, collaborative, and Agile environment
- A broad understanding of IT and the technologies commonly in use in Financial Services
- Experience in either a business analysis or product role
- Good experience with modern agile delivery management tools such Azure DevOps and Jira
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Extensive experience delivering enterprise-grade software
- Experience of BI and/or workflow tools
- Appreciation of modern DevOps trends, usage of GitHub and CoPilot
- Experience working within (re)insurance broking sector and have experience of working in a Lloyds London Market or other regulatory environment is beneficial, but not essential
